Education International

Education International is the federation of organisations representing over 30 million teachers and other education workers, through over 400 member organisations in more than 170 countries and territories.
  1. American David Edwards has been chosen to succeed outgoing and founding General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen after being named to the post by the organisation’s Executive Board.
  2. In advance of its 25th anniversary, Education International’s 50th Executive Board Meeting convenes in Brussels where leaders are set to make key decisions as a major chapter of the organisation is celebrated.
  3. Denied the extension of his furlough despite his poor health resulting from harsh detention conditions, Tehran teacher union leader Esmail Abdi was taken back to the Evin prison on 20 January.
  4. Education International’s President, Susan Hopgood, has been appointed Co-Vice Chair of the Working Group of the newly established International Education Workforce Initiative.
